This story is, in many ways, my own as I struggled with being gay at Liberty University. I found myself at the intersection of not fitting in at school while also not feeling accepted by my gay community at the coffee shop where I worked. I felt lost in the politics between both communities. Our country is polarized, and our information fragmented. People are lost in the constant inundation of news from their political spheres, making it nearly impossible to see others on the other side. Now more than ever, it’s important to show how this isolation affects people personally rather than through red or blue filters. No one should feel this alone or like they don’t belong.
